Dental Fillings And Root Canal Treatment


Dental fillings are done by a specialist using the latest materials and techniques.

We recommend the tooth colored composite resin fillings for the front teeth as they blend in naturally with the rest of the tooth.

Old silver fillings with decay around the filling tend to cause discoloration of the teeth and need to be replaced for esthetic and functional reasons.

The posterior teeth can be filled using different materials and techniques -
  • We recommend the tooth colored posterior composite resin restorations which follow the atraumatic restorative treatment protocol as they chemically bond and fortify the tooth structure and do not require excessive tooth reduction for mechanical retention as in the case of metallic fillings.
  • Silver amalgam fillings are not recommended unless specifically indicated.
  • Posterior reinforced glass ionomer restorations are specifically indicated in children and may also be used under composite resin fillings.
  • Posterior porcelain inlays are indicated in case of extensive tooth decay, and offer maximum esthetics and tooth support.
  • Posterior gold inlays are one of the best and long lasting way of restoring function of the posterior tooth.
Root canal treatment is done by a specialist using a painless technique. The procedure is done under local anesthesia in the first appointment.  Radiographs of the tooth are required and the treatment time depends on the condition of the tooth. Asymptomatic teeth can be root canalled in a single sitting, whereas in other situations it may take two or more sittings to complete.  The tooth must be crowned after completion of the root canal to protect it from fracture/breaking.
